Airport is the fifth level in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. It reappears in Tony Hawk's Underground 2 as a Classic Mode level, and in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD as downloadable content. The level has been recreated in the style of play and to match the graphics of each of the games that it has reappeared in.

Origin[]

The origin of this level is unclear as THPS3 doesn't have any direct indications of its location. However, the welcoming billboard states "Welcome to the islands", there are palm trees all around the airport and player can notice the volcano at the entrance of the airport. According to the texture name, this is the Hawaiian volcano Diamond Head.

However, the globe map in THUG2 has it placed in Japan. This led people to presume that Airport is located in either Osaka, Fukuoka, or even Kyoto since both levels share the location spot. But there is no Japanese text at all, so this probably was just a random placement without a thought behind it, in a similar vein to some of the classic levels in THUG2 such as School and Downhill Jam.

The real-life equivalent of this airport remains unknown.

Layout[]

The level is an airport terminal, including waiting room, baggage claim, baggage handling, toilets, customs and a helipad.

The level is significantly different in appearance in the Game Boy Advance version of Pro Skater 3, in keeping with the graphics and capability of the console.

  • "Flight 275 to Pacoima is departing in 5 minutes from gate 23."

Trivia[]

  • During the development, Neversoft planned to include an objective which would involve terrorists. After 9/11 it was decided to replace the terrorists with pickpockets. However, the pickpocket model file is still called terrorist_a.
    • This seems to be a rushed change, due to how the pickpockets have a small animation where they seem to press something in their hand, and then hold the money up in their hand (as if it were a detonator) and cause the groups of people that they are nearby to cower and run away. Their voice lines also seem more violent, as it seems rather odd a pickpocket would yell out and bring attention to themselves. It also seems strange that they would all dress the same and be in strange locations (such as a women's restroom.)
  • In THPS3, during the "Stop the Pickpockets" goal camera, a remix of a track from the Spider-Man PS1 game can be heard in the background.
  • In THUG2 if the player skates into one of the steel doors at the end of the level, they will teleport back to the start.
  • In THPSHD and the PS1/N64 versions of THPS3, Airport is set in the night, while the other versions are set in the day. Also, there are no pedestrians in either versions, aside from the caddy driver.
    • Also in THPSHD and the PS1/N64 versions of THPS3, the planes outside are based off Boeing 747's, while the other versions feature planes similar to the Airbus A340 and Boeing 707.
  • The PS1/N64 versions of THPS3 replaces the helipad with a small room that slightly resembles a baggage processing area. It contains quarterpipes near the double doors, some rails on the ground, a ledge, a ramp, a rail over the secret entrance, and a small circular bowl.
  • In THPS3 and THUG2, there are police officers guarding the bottom of the escalators. They will knock you down if you go anywhere near them.
  • In THPS3 and THUG2, when the music level is turned off, the background sound effects use the same the audio track from both of its appearances. It features speakers over the PA system speaking in somewhat gibberish.
  • The baggage caddy below the airport terminals goes backwards instead of turning.
  • In THPS3, if one accesses the freecam mode, and proceeds to move the camera under the floors, one will find that the "reflections" on the floor were made by mirroring the level
